Travel

It is increasingly common to find organically grown produce in many towns and cities. There are Internet sights where you can locate farmers’ markets as well as vegan restaurants that can satisfy your taste. Nearly every city has some sort of natural foods store where you can find organic produce as well as local magazines listing vegetarian restaurants and goings-on in town. (See the Restaurants and Vegetarian Web Site sections of this book to find what you may be seeking in the town you are visiting.)

Vegan dating sites also are a good source of information, and you may end up having a better time at your destination than you thought possible. (See the Dating section in this book.)

The travel industry creates enormous amounts of pollution. From airlines to hotels and from taxis to rental cars, the travel industry is very slowly starting to work on ways to clean up its act.

One way the travel industry pollutes is through its food. Tons of plastics and throwaway eating utensils are used every day by the airline industry. The hotel industry also causes massive amounts of pollution by not using recycled paper tissue, they don’t recycle, they use enormous amounts of environmentally unfriendly cleaning materials, use chlorine products in their pools, dispose of hundreds of thousands of mattresses every year, construct and decorate their facilities using environmentally unsafe and nonsustainable materials, and use toxic pesticides, insecticides, weed killer and fertilizers in their landscaping.

If you travel, seek ways to reduce your impact on the planet. If you choose to travel by car remember that sharing car rides is always less polluting than traveling singularly. Check out the Internet rideshare boards that I’ve listed below.
